Photo of the Month
Each month we will feature a different
photograph on this page - some will be from the archives and some will be from the present time,
but they will all have one common theme - mechanical horses!
Following the success of the original Mechanical Horse, Scammell developed
a more modern vehicle known as the Scarab. Released in 1947, the new model
soon became very popular with commercial users throughout the country, though
the railways remained the biggest single user. The example below was
restored by Parry Davis and is seen here
at the end of the Trans-Pennine Run in Harrogate.
2013 sees the Mechanical Horse Club celebrating its 30th anniversary and to mark
this occasion the club is organising a gathering of vehicles at The Severn
Valley Railway. This Scarab will be one of the vehicles on display at Kidderminster
station where it will be joined by at least six other 3-wheeled
Scammells. Further details can be found via the link on our homepage.
